Odyssean: Topographies – 18 November 2017 to 25 February 2018
Natasha Rosling – Alexander Stevenson – Alistair Grant – Simon Lee Dicker
Exhibition open 11am – 4pm daily
Hestercombe Gallery, Cheddon Fitzpaine, Taunton TA2 8LG
Over two years, Natasha Rosling, Alexander Stevenson, Alistair Grant and Simon Lee Dicker undertook a series of artist residencies across the Orkney Isles. From different locations – a remote bothy, a lighthouse, a beachside golf course and a burial chamber – each artist developed distinctive connections with the archipelago, its human stories, and its physical geography.Odyssean: Topographies draws together common threads in their practices: questions around mapping, invisible and imagined spaces, and remoteness, both physical and emotional. Aptly sited in the galleries and gardens of Hestercombe, the exhibition responds experimentally to a layered landscape at once historic and contemporary, highly managed and equally wild.Odyssean: Topographies is supported by Arts Council England and Gane Trust.
